My father, C. M. Reeder (1908-1999) was a very lucky man in the summer of 1941. His first wife had just died of childbirth complications in June ’41, leaving him with two twin newborns. My mother stepped right in. In Europe, WWII was well underway but December 7th was a half year ahead in time. They were married on September 3, 1941.
My mother’s mother was a Jowers so she had a cousin named Rovine, a petite and gracious lady who had married a real estate man in Blytheville, Ark. As a supervisor at the local Bell Telephone office, she had hired not only my mother, Beulah (1921-1989), but also my mother’s aunt, Opal Jowers Newhouse (19xx-1993), to work as telephone operators. Nepotism counts.
